This scholarship is for postgraduate coursework or research students specialising in the field of deafness and hearing loss.
About scholarships
In 1988, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch established a scholarship fund aimed at developing expertise in, and knowledge of, deafness.
Today, NextSense, as the trustee, awards this scholarship every two years. Early childhood, educational, and health professionals are invited to apply for a scholarship to:
– undertake studies in the field of hearing loss and deafness
– conduct research in fields that add to the evidence base for family-centred early intervention services in support of children who are deaf.
Studies must be undertaken at a Masters or PhD level at a tertiary institute in Australia.
Offer holders for the Master of Disability Studies in the deaf/hard of hearing specialisation are invited to apply.
Value
Based on the needs of the applicant up to a maximum value of $2,500 per year for a master’s course and $30,000 for PhD research.
Eligibility
Postal loans of material from the library’s collection are available to NextSense staff and NextSense Institute students.
Our helpful librarians can access and email journal articles and book chapters to you and perform database searches to find literature on your requested topic. Journal articles or book chapters can be requested.
Selection criteria
The scholarship is awarded based on need, relevance, quality of the study or research and overall contribution to advancing education in the field of deafness and hearing loss.
Selection process
– written applications submitted via the form/s below are reviewed. Note that applicants must have an offer from an Australian university or be currently studying in the relevant field before applications will be assessed
– shortlisted applicants may be invited to present to the selection committee
– successful applicants will be notified. This may take up to three months
recipients will be sent a scholarship agreement to review and sign.
